Solidarity ordered a nationwide strike alert and called its leaders into emergency session Wednesday after Polish commandos stormed a firefighters’ school, routed protesting cadets and seized nine unionists in Warsaw. Three Avery County men, including two deputy sheriffs, face illegal deer hunting charges in Burke County District Court in Morganton next Monday. They are accused of spotlighting deer. “Pygmalion" plays tonight and Saturday night at 8:30 p.m. at the Fine Arts Center and Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock. The White Oak Terrace annual Christmas Bazaar is today from 10a.m. to4p.m. The Tip Off Basketball Tournament in Landrum is today and Saturday. See the schedule elsewhere in the Bulletin. The Green Creek Ruritan White Elephant Sale is Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Green Creek School. The Tryon PTA rummage Sale is Saturday from 10 to 2 at the Tryon Plaza parking lot. Saturday at 7:30 p.m. The Continued On Back Page Gospel Singing There will be a Gospel Singing on Sunday, Dec. 6th at 3 p.m. at the New Testament Church of God. The Rev. Boyd Wood is the sponsor. Polk Chamber Meets Monday There will be a meeting of the Polk County Chamber of Commerce Monday, Dec. 7th at 7:30 p.m. at the Columbus Town Office. A New Arrival Mr. and Mrs. Phillip R. Feagan of Columbus are parents of a son, Phillip Hampton, born November 28th at Mary Black Hospital in Spartanburg. The maternal grandmother is Mrs. Sidney Smith, Columbus. The paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Feagan of Columbus. Investment Auction The annual Investment auction for missions, sponsored by the Tryon Seventh-day Adventist Church, will be held Saturday evening, December 5, in the ° f the Columbus Medical-Dental offices. Dr Charles Blomeley will act as auctioneer, and the Investment leader is Mrs. Lois Laybourn The sale of food will begin about 6:30, with the auction following. Christmas Party The Polk County Rescue Squad Auxiliary will have a Christmas party for the members’ children at the Rescue Squad building Monday night, Dec. 7th at 7 p.m. Bring a small gift for your child and Santa will be there. O. P. Earle PTA Meeting The 0. P. Earle Elementary PTA will meet Tuesday, December 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the Landrum High School Gymnasium. The children will present the program which will feature the singing of Christmas songs. A Craft Booth will be open at 6:30 p.m. You are invited to come and shop for dolls, bird houses, Christmas tree ornaments, ceramic pieces, baked goods and many other items. Stamp Club Meets Monday The Thermal Belt Stamp Club will meet in the NCNB Conference Room, Tryon at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, December 7th. A short business session to discuss plans for the April Stamp Show will be followed by the main program provided by the American Philatelic Society. Visitors are welcome. The Bulletin — 10' Per Copy Tryon Garden Club Christmas Meeting On Wednesday, December 9th at 4 p.m. the Tryon Garden Club will have its Christmas meeting at the Tryon Presbyterian Church. “Williamsburg Candlelight Christmas” will be the theme of the meeting. The refreshment table centerpiece will be the traditional Williamsburg apple tree and a large evergreen tree will be trimmed with authentic Williamsburg ornaments. The program will feature Laura Miller as soloist and the Holy Cross Bellringers. Carol singing and Wassail will follow the program. Members should bring non-perishable canned food wrapped and labeled for later distribution. Dogwood Garden Club The Dogwood Garden Club of Columbus will celebrate their Christmas meeting with a luncheon at i p.m., Dec. 9, at the home of Mrs. William McIlwain. Members and husbands will see “Angel Slides” shown by Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Woltman. Meeting Place Contract Bridge Results of the Meeting Pla Contract Bridge Club Wednes^ were as follows: 1st.
